Tips From The White Pine Family For Working From Home

With the onset of restrictions on how we work spawned by the Covid 19 crisis, more and more of us have opted for or been forced to work from home. As it happens, several of our homeowners have embraced the opportunity and have created successful work environments in their new homes. We polled them for tips we could share. Here are a few.

  1. Set up a dedicated office space and protect its boundaries. It helps if you have a great view for inspiration!

  2. Set a schedule and stick to it. Make sure everyone in the household understands they need to respect it, as well.

  3. Take regular breaks. Look to the trees, sit by the pond or take short walks around White Pine.

  4. Set ground rules of others in your space. No tempting me with the gorgeous Fall weather unless it is break time!

  5. Get a separate phone number for work and a VPN. This reduces the impact on the household and insures security of work data.

  6. Show up at meetings, and be heard. Speak up during those Zoom calls and it helps to use that great view of the trees as your backdrop.

  7. Use to-do lists and record completions.

  8. Maintain good relationships with colleagues. If you can, invite them out for socially distanced walks and small gatherings.

As our community develops, many owners are incorporating home offices and dedicated work spaces in their designs. As we are only about an hour out of Chicago, the occasional commute is easy and makes White Pine and all its amenities particularly desirable for out-of-office working. Our architects and builders are particularly adept at creating flexible spaces which can serve the new demand now, and then be used for other things later. Feel free to contact us if you would like to explore the White Pine lifestyle.
